A plain tee and jeans can feel deliberate without becoming a styling project. The difference usually comes from the fit of the pieces and the way they meet, rather than how many details you add. Start with the clothes you wear most, not an imagined perfect wardrobe.

Look at the neckline first
A neckline that sits comfortably and lies flat gives the outfit a clean starting point. A stretched or twisted neck can make the rest look less settled. When trying a new tee, check it after moving and sitting, not only straight out of the packaging. If you prefer a collared shape, a simple polo offers a different route without needing a formal shirt.
Decide what you want the sleeve to do
A closer sleeve makes the upper half feel sharper; a wider sleeve gives a relaxed shape. Neither is automatically better. Compare the shoulder seam and sleeve opening with a tee you enjoy wearing. Sizing up changes length and neckline as well as width, so it is not always the best way to get an oversized fit.
Check the meeting point with denim
With straight jeans, try the tee untucked first. If it hides the whole rise and feels too long, a small front tuck may help, provided the fabric does not bunch. If you are always tucking away a large amount of excess cloth, a different body length may be the more comfortable solution.
Use texture for variety
A textured short-sleeved shirt worn open over a tee gives a similar easy outfit more depth. Keep the base plain so the layers do not compete. The linked shirt and polo below are alternatives to explore, not products described as plain crew-neck tees. Check their actual collars and fastenings on the product pages.
Finish with ordinary maintenance
Follow the care label, remove visible lint and check that shoes are clean enough for the setting. Avoid assuming that a heavier-looking tee is better quality or more durable: fibre, construction and care matter, and product photos cannot establish all of them.
Try the three-colour limit as a starting experiment: tee, denim and shoes in a restrained palette. If it feels too plain, add texture before adding another statement colour. A simple outfit should leave you free to get on with the day.
